New Subject Area Delivers Information to Help Engineering Firms Define, Scope and Implement ‘Shovel Ready’ Projects
NEW YORK, July 14, 2009 – Knovel, an online resource that helps engineers find reliable technical information faster, today announces the immediate availability of its Transportation Engineering collection. This new subject area includes technical information engineers need for the design, construction and upgrade of transportation systems and infrastructure for air, rail, coastal areas, offshore, and on the road.
President Obama’s stimulus package allocates $72 billion to infrastructure, and in early March 2009, more than $20 billion was released by the U.S. Federal Government to fund capital projects. To help engineering firms bid for these ‘shovel ready’ projects, Knovel’s new Transportation Engineering subject area supplies engineers with reliable information to help them solve technical problems and complete projects faster.
Knovel’s Transportation Engineering collection incorporates data and handbooks from publishers including the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE) Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), Elsevier, McGraw-Hill, Springer, Wiley and Woodhead. Featured titles include:
• Handbook of Transportation Engineering;
• AASHTO Transportation Glossary, 4th Edition; and,
• Standard Specifications for Transportation Materials and Methods of Sampling and Testing, 29th Edition.
“So many of Knovel’s customers are positioning themselves to take advantage of the transportation related opportunities present in the current economy,” said Chris Forbes, Knovel President and CEO. “In response, we felt Knovel could help by providing engineering teams with access to needed information as they design more innovative projects, speed up time-to-completion, and, ultimately, win more business in this quickly developing area.
Topic areas extend from transportation infrastructure and system control through shipping, logistics, environmental concerns and security.
